Obituary

Coeburn, VA ~ Cecile Margaret Greear, 96, joined our Lord on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at Bon Secour St. Mary's Hospital in Norton, Virginia.
The family matriarch, Cecile was born in Washington County Virginia and was the eldest daughter of Emmitt and Rosa Pippin.
During her time on earth, Cecile was very active in many church, community affairs and organizations. She was an active member of Coeburn Chapter O.E.S. and an early columnist for the Coalfield Progress, many of her articles can still be found in local scrapbooks. As recently as four years ago several articles surfaced when and individual was searching for articles about Coeburn, Norton and the surrounding areas. Many of the articles are as relevant today as they were when written. A school teacher for over twenty years in Scott/Wise Counties, many of today's adults will remember her devotion to them as her students and their well being and later as a friend. Cecil's home was always open to everyone.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edison Greear, a country music pioneer and three sons, Leon, Frank and Don.
Survivors include a son, Gary Greear of Flatwoods; Ann Dewine, Knoxville, Mary Salyer, Norfolk, Sue Pooley, Melbourne, FL and Margaret Powers, Coeburn; 24 Grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
She will be missed by all.

Funeral services for Cecile Margaret Greear will be held Tuesday, January 27, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Don Large and Brother Curtis Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.Visitation will be held at Estes Funeral Home Chapel on Monday after 6:00 P.M.
