Coeburn, VA - Charlie "Junior" Rose, age 89, passed away peacefully, Sunday, April 16, 2017, at Indian Path Medical Center in Kingsport, TN, surrounded by family.
He was born December 9, 1927 in Russell County, VA. Junior was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Retha Salyers Rose, his grandson Eric Boyd Gross, grand-daughter-in-law Shelley Greear Gross, his parents Oscar and Odie Rose, 4 sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews.
Junior farmed the majority of his life and was employed as a bus driver for Scott County School systems for 36 years. After he retired, he enjoyed repairing lawnmowers and talking with all his friends and neighbors who stopped in to see him. He never met a stranger.
Junior is survived by his children Carolyne Gross and husband Garry, Nancy Mann & husband Buck, Walter Rose and wife Glenda, and Geneva Love and companion Johnny Odle; his grandchildren, Wally & Rebecca Rose, Stacey Gross & companion Sherry Grizzle, Jennifer & Denny Wright, Charles & Heather Rose, Chris Gross, and Matthew & Mirandy Rose, his extra special granddaughter-in-law and caregiver Nicole Gross, and 12 great grandchildren, his caregiver and honorary daughter Marie Osborne, and special caregiver Angela Gibson. He is also survived by his sister Frances Hensley and several nephews and nieces; a host of friends and neighbors, and last but definitely not least his beloved dog, Sam.

Visitation will be held at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, VA from 5 to 7PM, Tuesday, April 18, 2017. Funeral services will follow at 7 PM with the Rev. Elwood Hall officiating. The family will also receive friends at Junior's home after 11 AM Monday. Music will be provided by special neighbors and honorary children, Fred and Gay Greear and their daughter Tanya. Pallbearers will be grandsons. Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 11 AM at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Junior's honor to the American Heart Association 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, VA 23060.
