Abingdon, VA ~ Delbert Jackson Smith, 80 passed away Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at his home after an extended illness. a native of Wise County, he had lived in the Abingdon area since 1993.
He retired as a Lieutenant from the Wise County Sheriff's Office with 17 years of service.
He was a christian and attended Midway Church of The Living God in Abingdon.
He was the son of the late Jackson Edward Smith and Maxie Irene Kennedy Smith; also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Katherine Smith; two sisters, Joann Childs and Ruby Gouge.
Survivors include his wife of 36 Years, Phyllis Sue Clark Smith; daughters, Debra (Roy) Bright, Norton, Donna (Louna) Lawson, Coeburn, Clara (Barry) House, Sassafras, KY; step-daughter, Melissa Dean, Abingdon; sons, Michael (Olivia) Smith, Coeburn and Lyndon (Tammy) Baker, Pound; sisters, Rosemary (Bascom) Funk, Jettie (Ronnie) Caldwell, Susie (Rex) Salyers, all of Coeburn, Faye Mullins and Joyce Caldwell, of Abingdon, Carolyn (James) Armstrong, Cumberland, VA; 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews.
Funeral services for Delbert Jackson Smith will be held on Saturday April 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dave Gibson officiating. Burial will follow Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday after 6:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home.Family members will serve as pallbearers.
