Dorothy Hammond Thompson, 76, entered into rest Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Norton Community Hospital. She was born April 1, 1949, in Dickenson County to the late Rufus and Eva McCarty Hammond. She attended the Church of God in Coeburn, VA.

Along with her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, John Leroy Thomas, Sr;  son, John Leroy Thompson, Jr; step-children, Greg Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, and Tommy Thompson; siblings, Lillian Simpson, Kermit Hammond, Bob Hammond, Lessie Elder, and Sarah Hammond.

Left to cherish her memories, daughters, Barbara Thompson and Polly Smith both of Clintwood, VA; sons, Jerry Hammond, Jackie Thompson, and Leroy Thompson all of Wise, VA; siblings, Paul Hammond of Abingdon, VA, George Hammond of Clintwood, VA and Arbutus Tickles of Dandridge, TN; special grandson, Jesse James Thompson; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; special friend, Louis Wright of Wise, VA; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, July 21, 2025, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at McCoys Chapel Church in Nora, VA. Services will be at 1:00 pm with Pastor Larry Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Ramsey, Norton, VA.
