With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Fredrick "Freddie" Chaffin, who departed this life at the age of 80. He was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Freddie was a man of strong faith who loved God and lived his life with conviction. He was known for his sense of humor, his stubborn streak, and his kind heart. He had a way of making people laugh and never hesitated to speak his mind, but those closest to him knew the deep love he carried for his family.

He proudly served as a police officer, dedicating part of his life to protecting and serving his community. Outside of his work, Freddie found joy in the simple things— reading the bible, working puzzle books, sharing stories, and spending time with the people he loved most.

He was especially known for making the best cornbread, coffee, and pancakes around, a talent that brought family together and will be fondly remembered for years to come.

Above all else, Freddie cherished his family. Being "Pappy" was one of his greatest joys, and his love for his grandbabies and great-grandchildren was undeniable. His legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to live on through them.

Freddie leaves behind a legacy of memories that will be treasured forever.

Freddie is preceded in death by his parents, Garfield Chaffin and Vena Robinson, his son, Freddie Dwayne Chaffin, and his grandson, Jack Short.

Freddie is remembered by his wife, Kay Chaffin; daughters, Selena Chaffin James and Amy Chaffin Johnson (Mike Johnson); brothers, John Chaffin, Don Chaffin, Gary "Tiny" Chaffin; and sister, Sandra Cress; his grandchildren, Sabrina Short, Jade Watson and husband, Gavin, Jason James, Logan McCoy, Brady McCoy, Ben Chaffin, and Jaden Johnson; great-granddaughter, Eleanor "Ellie" Watson; and his special companion, Bella; several nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 28, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with funeral service following in the Estes Funeral Home Chapel in Coeburn, VA with Pastor Tim Townes officiating.
