Garland Darnell "Duchie" Thomas Sr., 60, of Harlem, New York entered eternal rest on November 1st, 2012. He was born in Dante, Virginia on January 23rd, 1952 to the late Melvin Lewis Thomas Sr. and Dorothy Hardy Thomas Hill. He received his formal education at Coeburn High School where he furthered his education and received an Associate degree in Ministry. He was active in the United States Army and also a truck driver and also an upcoming entrepreneur who loved to ride his Harley Davidson motorcycles around town.

Garland was preceded in death by his parents Melvin Lewis Thomas and Dorothy Hardy Thomas Hill; two sisters Gearldine Thomas Freeman and Frances Thomas; four brothers Melvin Thomas Jr., Henry "Terrible T" Thomas, Norman Thomas and Harry Lee Thomas as well as several nieces and nephews.

Duchie is survived by two daughters: Michelle "Mimi" Mooney of Coeburn, Virginia and Destiny Thomas of San Bernardino, California; two sons Garland "Gary" Thomas Jr. of Douglasville, Georgia, and Robert (Cindi) Mooney of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was the grandfather of Damien, Darius, Destinee and Deventae Mooney ofCoeburn, Virginia; Nadia Wise of Douglasville, Georgia, Martika Griffin of Thomaston, Georgia; Shanice Rice of Morristown, Tennessee, Cobie and Courtni Mooney of Knoxville, Tennessee. He is also survived by two great grandchildren Yazmine Mooney of Coeburn, Virginia and Audri Griffin of Thomaston, Georgia; two loving sisters Janie Barron of Harlan, New York and Joann Foster of Hampton, Virginia and a special friend Paul Day of Harlan, New York.

Visitation will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, Virginia followed by a memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Miller's Temple in Carbo, Virginia.
