Coeburn, VA ~ Gearl Giles Powers, 81 passed away Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Norton Community Hospital in Norton Virginia.
Hewas a retired coal miner of Westmoreland Coal Co. and a former employee of Clinchfield Coal Co, and Pepsi Cola Bottling Co. in Norton.
Gearl was the son of the late Roy Allen Powers and Victoria Franks Powers; He was also preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Yvonne Holbrook Powers.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Mallard, Virginia Beach, VA; four sons, Jess Roy Powers, Coeburn, Dr. Steven Powers, Chesapeake, VA, Phillip Powers, Chesapeake, VA and Glen Powers, Roanoke, VA; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Smith Powers, Kingsport, TN; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Morgan, Jeshua, Michael, Mitchell, Matthew, Mason and Launce; 1 great grandchild, several nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Gearl Giles Powers will be held on Saturday, January 4, 2014 from 12 noon til 2:00 PM at Estes Funeral Home Chapel, funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Joe Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Estes Funeral Home, 114 High Ave., Coeburn, VA.
