Gene Autry McCoy, 78, of Nora, VA, passed away peacefully Monday, May 13, 2024, at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, TN. He was born  October 28, 1945 in Nora, VA, to the late Ora and Vickie McCoy.

Gene loved going to church, listening to music, playing cards with the family, fishing, and playing cornhole. He was known to be the Jokester or Prankster. He worked many jobs as a coal miner, and various factories.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Pauline McCoy; son, James McCoy; siblings, Cecil McCoy, Georgia McCoy, Lulabell Keith, Alma Buchanan, Bertie Cochran, Shirley Salyers, and MacAuthur McCoy.

He is survived by his son, Christopher McCoy of Nora, VA; daughter, Shelly Stanley (Michael) of Nora, VA; stepson, Michael Charbauski of Aurora, IL; grandson, Cory Stanley (Erin) of Georgetown, KY; granddaughter, Allyson Ferrell (Thomas) of Richmond, KY; sisters, Barbara Jackson and Carrie McCoy both of Nora, VA; brother, Jonas McCoy of Coeburn, VA; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Family will receive friends Thursday, May 16, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at McCoy Chapel Church on Brushy Ridge Road, Nora, VA. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Bro. Jerry McCoy and Roger McCoy officiating. Graveside services will be Friday, May 17, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. in McCoy Chapel Cemetery on Brushy Ridge. Family and friends are ask to meet there by 11:45.

Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
