Geneva Hayes Lawson, lovingly known as "Granny," age 88, of Coeburn, Virginia, passed into eternal glory triumphantly on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Abingdon Health and Rehab Facility.
Geneva was born to the late Alonzo Hayes and Stella Turner Hayes and was one of ten children.
Granny was a hard worker who held multiple jobs to provide for her family. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. A faithful Christian who was saved at an early age, Geneva loved listening to gospel music and cherished time spent with her family. She especially enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spoiling those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jr. Mack Lawson; her sons, Donald Richard Lawson ("Duck'), David Eugene Lawson ("Moose"); and her siblings, Lakie Hayes, Bervie Hayes, Thelma Castle, Newbie Hayes, Cleta Hayes, Melvin "Stanford" Hayes, Cecil Hayes, and Franklin Hayes.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Danny Jay Lawson (Sue), Denise McCoy (Clyde), Della Duty, Daniel Lawson (Anita), Stoney Lawson (Marcie), Charlie Carl Williams Jr. (Jennifer) ("Monkeyman"); her grandchildren: Danny, Billie, Latonya, Becky, Daniela, Josh, Jason, Joey, Juanita, Chris, Cassie, Naomi, Mack, Barbara, Matthew, Katie, Donald, Ronald, Melanie, and Geneva; her siblings, Moses Hayes and Darvil Hayes (Barbara); along with several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other close relatives, and friends.
The family of Geneva Hayes Lawson will receive friends on Friday, January 2, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, Virginia.
A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation in the chapel of Estes Funeral Home, with Danny Wright officiating.
Committal services will follow the funeral at Walker-McCoy Cemetery, where Geneva will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers, honoring her life with their presence and love.
