Guy Fatony, Jr., 82, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Thursday, April 16, 2009, as he was surrounded by family at his daughter's home in Havelock, North Carolina.
He was born Nov. 30, 1926 in Caretta, West Virginia, to the late Sophia Jesse Fatony of Coeburn, and the late Guy Fatony of Foggia, Italy. Guy (Junior) was an employee for many years at Witt Motor Co. of Norton, Va and was retired from Westmorland Coal Co. in Big Stone Gap, Va. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.
He is survived by five children; Brenda Miller of Owensboro, Kentucky; Sam Fatony of Gloucester Point, Virginia; Linda Peek of Havelock, North Carolina; Mary Chandler of Big Stone Gap, Va. and David Fatony of Pennington Gap, Va. He was beloved "Pap-Paw" to 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was also known as "Uncle Junior" to many nieces and nephews.
Guy's greatest joy was his family. He would light up with this joy whenever the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren would come visit. He looked forward to annual family reunions in West Virginia and Havelock, North Carolina.
Guy loved doing anything outdoors ... from fishing, to planting plants, to yard work. His motto was "Whatever he started was to be finished."
Back home in Big Stone Gap, he was well known for his auto mechanics. People from all around would bring their cars to Guy for repairs. He enjoyed this type of work and his work testified of his talents.
Guy will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Visitation is after 6:00 P.M. Monday, April 20, at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn and memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Rev. James Qualls of Big Stone Gap.Burial will be at Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pall bearers. Estes Funeral Home, 114 High Ave., Coeburn is in charge of arrangements.
