Hazel
Sexton
May 5, 1940 — Jun 2, 2026
With heavy hearts and deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Hazel Sexton, who peacefully entered into God's eternal grace on June 2, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 5, 1940, in Coeburn, Virginia, Hazel was the daughter of the late Otis and Bessie Gibson. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don C. Sexton, and her cherished great-granddaughter, Quinn Sexton.
Hazel leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish her memory: her son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Becky Sexton of Coeburn, Virginia; her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Junior Tate of Norton, Virginia; her grandchildren, Ashley Harvey; Allegra Sexton and husband, Jeff Bush; Marcus Sexton and Stephanie Lawson; Aaron Sexton; Hali Meade; and Hollie Meade and Dylan Stout; and her treasured great-grandchildren, Landon Harvey, Luc Harvey, Kyrenn Sexton, Aria Sexton, and Natalie Sexton. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Hazel devoted her life to caring for and loving her family. A lifelong member of Stone Mountain Pentecostal Church, she was raised in the faith and remained a faithful servant of God throughout her life. Her church, family, and community were the center of her world.
Truly the last of a generation gone by, Hazel will always be remembered as the keeper of her family's history and stories. Her remarkable memory and gift for sharing the past provided a living connection between generations. Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, wisdom, and legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, Virginia.
A graveside service will follow at Sexton Cemetery.
