"Helen Marie Bennett Markham passed away at Holston Valley Medical Center on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, John G. Markham; her parents, Joseph Hardaway and Lillian Marie Bennett; siblings, Bobby, Linda Gail, Katherine, Edward, and Dorothy; and her son, Roy.

She is survived by her sister, Della Roberts; daughter, Mary Rash and son, Joel Markham; grandchildren, Nicholas Owens, Alicia and Seth Kallen; Matthew and Nathan Markham; and Ryan; her great-grandchildren, Adelyn and Max, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

She was a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Wise County Electoral Board and Housing Authority, she worked as a candy-striper at St. Mary's Hospital, she was an avid quilter, seamstress, and baker.

Services will be held 6:00pm at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, VA on Thursday, February 26, 2026 with visitation from 5-6:00pm. Pastor RL and Jane Crawford will be officiating with special singing from the church. Burial will be in Greenwood Acres Cemetery Friday, February 27, 2026, at 1:00pm.
