Coeburn, VA ~ Herbert Hoover Funk, 79, lifelong resident of Coeburn, (Caney Ridge) passed away peacefully Friday, April 11, 2008 in Big Stone Gap Virginia, with his beloved daughter with him.
Born June 28, 1928 and was the son of the late Samuel Funk and Ollie Adkins Funk.
He was a member of Pippin Chapel Church and was a humorous and selfless man to all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Avia Amburgey Funk; sister, Julia Burke; two brothers, Paul and Fred Funk and 3 baby sisters.
Survivors include daughter Rita Jane Funk Moore and husband, Steven Tate Moore, Coeburn, VA; six brothers, Emmitt Funk, Alex Funk, Bruce Funk, Ulysses Funk, Bascom Funk and Doug Funk Sr. all of Coeburn; two granddaughters, Stephanie Moore Meade and husband Chuck, Lexington, KY and Amanda Moore Darden and husband Gib, Conway SC; 5 great grandchildren, Magdalyn Jane Darden, Rachel Katryn Meade, Fisher Tate Darden, August Jude Darden and Charlotte Avia Meade; special friend, Rachel and daughter, Destiny; numerous caring and praying friends; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Saturday April 12, 2008, after 6:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel and funeral service will be at 7:00 P.M. with Rev. Nolan Stanley officiating. Burial will be 10:00 A.M. Sunday, April 13, 2008 at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA. Family will meet at the funeral home and leave in procession at 9:30 A.M.
