Jack Preston Tickles,92, passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at his home surrounded by his wife, Linda and step-son of 21 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother and step-dad, Rosie and Cleophus Mullins.  Jack was from Wise County and went to work at Norfolk and Southern Railroad in 1955 as a machinist.  He retired in 1991. After his retirement from the railroad he had a lawn care service and had his own country and western band, playing all over, including the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, TN. He met several of the country music stars and enjoyed talking about his experiences.

He returned to Wise County in 2001 where he resided just before he died. He attended Pippin Chapel Church where he and his wife sang. He enjoyed helping take care of their large yard and taking care of their vegetable garden, and sharing the excess with their neighbors and friends.

Jack led a full life and enjoyed it fully.

He is survived by his wife Linda Gay Tickles of the home; step-son, Michael Dotson of Nickelsville, VA; daughters, Brenda Mae (Bernie) Freeman of Johnson City, TN, and Jacquline Mae (John) Hines of Virginia Beach, VA; granddaughters, Jamie (Lee) Baybrook of Manassas, VA, Lori Anne (Simon) Dunning of Snellville, GA and Dixie Anne Hines of Virginia Beach, VA; 4 great-grandchildren and several cousins, friends and church acquaintances.

Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Sunday, February 16. 2025 at Estes Funeral; Home in Coeburn, VA. Funeral services will follow in the funeral home chapel with Ministers, Nolan Stanley and Tom Slemp officiating. Special singing will be provided.

Committal service will be Monday, February 17, 2025 at Rugsby Cemetery on Caney Ridge DC.  Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 for procession the the cemetery.
