Coeburn, VA ~ James Troy Bates, 87, died Tuesday, May 23, 2000 at Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap, Virginia.
Mr. Bates was a retired coal miner and a lifelong resident of Coeburn.
He was preceded in death by his wife Lola, his parents, Newton Columbus and Mary Elizabeth Davis Bates, 4 brothers, Elmer Henry Bates , George W. "Chic" Bates, Carson Bates and Victor Bates.
Survivors include, 3 daughters, Margaret McGhee, Indiania, PA, Mary Ellen Thompson, Big Stone Gap, and Nancy B. Wilkerson, Chilhowie, VA; 2 sons, Bobby L. Batesand Gerald Bates both of Coeburn; 1 brother, Charles Leo Bates, Royal Oak, MI; special friend, Judy Barbee, Coeburn, 15 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren,several nephews,several nieces.
Funeral services for James Troy Bates,will be held Thursday, May 25, 2000 at2:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bill Phillips will be officiating. Visitation will be held at Estes Funeral Home on Wednesday after 6:00 P.M.. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.
