He was preceded in death by his father, George Cole and a brother, George W. Cole.
Survivors include his mother, Millie Harvey Cole, 4 daughters, Lorie, Beth, Ruby and Cindy; 2 brothers, Lawrence Edward Cole, Martinsville, VA and Thomas Harvey Cole, Fieldale, VA; 3 sisters, Judy Harvey, Coeburn, Mary Lou Watson and Brenda Sue Perdieu Kinny both of Rocky Mount, VA; special friend, Margaret Terry, Martinsville, VA; 6 Grandchildren, several nephews, several nieces.

Funeral services for James "Jim" Monroe Cole will be held Thursday, September 25, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Curt Bond and Rev. Charlie Couch officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn. Visitation will be held at Estes Funeral Home on Wednesday after 6:00 P.M.
