James Harold Johnson, 84, of Nora, VA passed away on Friday, October 8, 2021 at Holston Valley Hospital after a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ballard R. and Virdia L. Johnson; two sisters, Betty (Retha) Palmer and Ada Stanley; brother, Edward (Sug) Johnson. Harold was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and was of the Baptist faith.He was a beekeeper, and loved to hunt turkey, deer, and ginseng. Harold especially loved the mountains and woods of Southwest Virginia.He loved to talk about hunting and whatever was going on in the community.

He is survived by sister, Agnes McCowan of Nora, VA; brother, Johnny and wife Madge Johnson of Coeburn, VA. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A graveside service to honor Harold's life will be held at 2 pm Sunday, October 10, 2021 at John F. Rose cemetery on Sandy Ridge. Pastor Jack Meade will be officiating the services.Pallbearers will be Sidney Counts, Timothy Johnson, Evan McCowan, Wesley McCowan, Chad McCoy, and Clyde (Sud) Sluss.Honorary pallbearers will be Allen McCowan, Duke Blair, and Corey Turner.
