Coeburn, VA ~ John "Hub" Gray, 73, died Tuesday, December 9, 2003 at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee.
Mr. Gray was a retired coal miner of Clinchfield Coal Company, field representative for District #28 and a member of U.M.W.A Local #1256.
He was past president of Coeburn Little League and received a 50-year plaque for dedicated service, also past president of Pony League, organizer and past president of Coeburn Senior League. He was a Virginia High School League official in football and baseball and announced for many years football, baseball, and girls softball.
Past governor of Coeburn Moose Lodge, served on the Wise County Recreation Board as Vice-chairman before having to retire due to his health.
He was a member of Coeburn Alumni Association and was active in Coeburn Civic Affairs.
Also a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Edwards Gray; his parents, James Preston and Elizabeth Latisha Williams Gray.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara "Tammy" and Gary Ring, Teresa Dawn and Calvin Smith and Stacey Lynn and Ted Jones, all of Coeburn; son and daughter-in-law, Jonathan "Rickey" and Joyce Gray, Coeburn and son, Steven H. Gray, Coeburn; brother and sisters-in-law, Harold Burke and Juanita Gray, Marietta, GA and Franklin Dale and Ruth Gray, Castlewood, VA; special friends, Pearl Hughes, Frank Morris & Eddie Kiser; 10 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren and several nephews and nieces.
Funeral services for John "Hub" Gray will be held Friday, December 12, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Ival Mitchell officiating.Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.Visitation will be held at Estes Funeral Home on Thursday after 6:00 P.M. Pall bearers will be Keith Whited, Anthony Gray, Aaron Smith, Tyler Jones, Blake Jones and Casey Gray.
