Lakie Hayes, 94, of Dungannon, entered into rest on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Russell County Hospital.

Lakie was born in Wise County, VA., the daughter of the late Alonzo Hayes and Stella Turner Hayes.  Lakie lived a simple life full of all the good things she liked. She enjoyed working at a sewing factory for many years. Quilting and making items with and for her family and friends was a pasttime she treasured.  Her animals brought her much joy over the years, they were her favorite things in life. She was a devoted aunt and beloved sister to her large family.  She will be deeply missed by all those that knew her.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings; Bervie Hayes, Thelma Castle, Newbie Hayes, and Cleta Hayes, Melvin "Stanford" Hayes, Cecil Hayes, and  Franklin Hayes.

Left to cherish her memory are: Sister, Geneva Lawson; brothers, Moses Hayes, and Darvil Hayes (Barbara); son, James Williams (Patricia); grandchildren, Charlie Williams, Jimmy Williams, and Nick Williams; thirteen great grandchildren; nieces, Denise McCoy and Della Duty and many other nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends too numerous to mention.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Estes Funeral Home in Coeburn, VA from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. for the visitation. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Estes Funeral Home with  Pastor Alvin Meade officiating.

Special music will be provided by Anita Winebarger and family.

The graveside committal service will be held in the Walker- McCoy Cemetery on Marshalls Retreat Road in Coeburn.

The family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
