Coeburn, VA ~ Mary Elizabeth Hale Adkins, 89, a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her loved ones Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at Norton Community Hospital in Norton, Virginia.
Ma was a devoted Christian that fought a good fight and kept the faith.
She was the daughter of the late Jessie Elbert and Katherine Rebecca Holyfield Hale; also preceded in death by her husband, William Jess Adkins; daughters, Sylvinia Loretta Jenkins and Martha Caroline Stapleton, sons, Thomas Edward Adkins and Jessie James Adkins; granddaughters, Madonna Mullins and Sherry Hamm; sisters, Margaret Stair and Avia Pannell; twin brother, Joe Hale and other brothers, Burl, Otmer, Harold, Darrell, Frank and Estil Hale.
Survivors include six daughters, Janice Mullins, and husband, Harold, Judy Yates and husband, Ray, Kathy 'Lois' Plaster, and husband, Arthur, Ruth Hamm, and husband, Winfred all of Coeburn, Melissa Culbertson, Appalachia, VA, Joyce Mullins, Clintwood; three sons, Johnny Adkins, Marcus Adkins, and wife, Brenda, all of Coeburn and David Adkins, and wife, Cathy, Nora; brothers, Herbert Hale and Everett Hale, both of Coeburn; 27 grandchildren; 43 great grandchildren; 10 great great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and family.

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth Adkins will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Lawson, Rev. Joe Dearry and Rev. Shorty Yates officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Acres Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held after 6 PM Friday, September 12, 2014 at Estes Funeral Home Chapel.
