Mary Lou Ellis – Coeburn, VA

Mary Lou Ellis, age 79, passed away peacefully at the home of her son in Lebanon, Virginia.

Mary was born in Wise County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Otis Sturgill and Lula Stidham Sturgill. She attended Freewill Baptist Church in Coeburn. Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother who cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts, and keeping her home. Her loving nature and the memories she created with her family will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Ellis; her daughter, Rhonda Ellis Brady; her sister, Juanita Sturgill; sisters-in-law, Thelma Sykes and Kathleen Lumbardy; and brothers-in-law, Huey Ellis, Worley Ellis, Willard Ellis, and Ervin Ellis, Sr.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Huey Ellis and wife Angela of Castlewood, VA, Robert Samuel Ellis and Courtney Sowards of Pound, VA, John Ellis and wife Barbara of Coeburn, VA, Jasmine Ellis of the home, and Robert James Ellis of Coeburn, VA; grandchildren, Justin Brummitt, Ezra Ellis,  little John Ellis, Luke Ellis,  Logan and Jaxton, & Matthew Ellis; great-grandchildren; Avni, Maddison,  Tristan,Chester, sisters, Pat Teague and husband Kenneth, Sherry Hamilton and husband Darrell, Linda Morgan and husband Roger, and Jearline Farmer and husband Johnny; sister-in-law, Janice Fay McConnell of Pensacola, FL; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

In keeping with Mary's wishes, services will be private. She will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, James. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
