Coeburn, VA ~ Oliver S. "Buttercup" Stallard, 83 died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Sunbridge in Kingsport Tennessee.
Mr. Stallard was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving with the 91st Division of the 5th Army in North Africa and Italy. He served in the battles of Rome, Arno, North Apennines and Po Valley.
He received the Purple Heart when wounded in Italy on the Gothic Line on Sept, 15, 1942. Also the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Ribbon, WW II Victory Ribbon, American Theatre Service Ribbon and Combat Infantryman Badge-Expert Rifle.
He was a former employee of Hunsaker Electric in Coeburn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Avis Campbell Stallard, his parents, John Dayton (Dee) and Orpha Stallard; brothers, Buford, Shirley, Cline and Roger Stallard; sisters, Erma Dell Williams and Carma Clark.
Survivors include One Daughter, Hilda Jean Altman, Baltimore, MD, Two Sisters, Marlene Adkins, Copper Hill, TN, Nancy Elizabeth Curtain, San Antonio, TX; Two Brothers, Emory Stallard, Richmond, VA and Dayton Stallard, Clinton, TN; 3 step-daughters, Helen Bolling and Shirley Miller both of Coeburn and Marie Helton, Virginia City, VA; 1 step-son, Arvil Hill, Norton;
One Grandson, James Randy Hill, Coeburn, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service for Oliver S. "Buttercup" Stallard will be held Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006 at 2:00 PM in Estes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. R.L. Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, VA. The body will remain at Estes Funeral Home where the family will receive friends after 6:00 P.M. Saturday. Estes Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
