What a life. What an eternal life! Sissy Davis, also known as Doris Bernice, ended phase 1 on Friday, May 20, 2016 and began phase 2 for which there is no end. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tinky (Richard) Davis, her father and mother, Vern Kiser and Lily Richardson, a brother, Jack Kiser, two sisters, Dorothy Keyser and Janice Mullins, and a special friend Lea Masters. She is survived by a daughter, Joni Richard of Cottonwood CA, and two sons and daughters in law, Charlie and Patti Davis, Fishkill NY, Richard and Susan Davis, Jonesville, VA, grandchildren, great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, and three sisters, Alice and husband Bill Slaughter, Jerri and husband Wayne Meyers, and Charlotte Faye Weber. Sissy was a child of the Great Depression, being born November 3, 1929, 4 days after the Wall Street crash. Growing up poor, there was abundant love in the Kiser household. She remembered lots of cousins, carrying water, searching for red cedar Christmas trees, hearing the radio announce the Pearl Harbor bombing, and walking across a coal waste pile to Toms Creek School. She marveled that a son helped reclaim the pile some 60 years later. In 1949, she met and married a WW2 sailor of the greatest generation, and they proceeded to raise their 3 children. Sissy and Tinky camped and fished, and always insisted their children attend Sunday school. Sissy was a devoted caregiver for Tinky as he suffered and died from black lung disease. After his death in 1983, Sissy struggled with alcoholism but eventually defeated it with the help of AA and a higher power. Even though dementia robbed her life of joy in her later years, she also defeated it with the help of the higher power. Through the fog of this terrible disease and in the deepest core of her memory, she was able to remember and sing three hymns: Amazing Grace, When We All Get To Heaven, and Jesus Loves Me. Some things are truly, and simply unforgettable. Amazing. Amen.

The family will celebrate her life at 11 AM, Saturday, May 28 at the Jonesville First United Methodist Church in Jonesville, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you pray and ask God's guidance to show love for one another, just as Christ loves us (John 13:34-35). And, hug a parent or child, or both if you are so fortunate.
