Obituary

Theodore "Moe Miller" Courtney

May 18, 1961 – February 26, 2026 (Age 64)

Moe passed away on February 26, 2026, at his residence in Coeburn, Virginia, after a lengthy illness.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Mamie Lee Courtney; his father, Theordius "Bud" Miller; his brothers, Douglas and Kenneth Miller; and his sisters, Dee Miller and Elizabeth "Jug" Hill.

Moe is survived by his spouse, Lisa Yates Courtney; his children, Adrian Courtney; Brittany Courtney (Chris); Shaunta Dzogchen (Joe); Tyler Courtney (Lindsay); Jordan Cole (Jasmine); Chandler Cole; Natalee Courtney; and Kathryn Courtney; and his siblings, Robert Spencer Miller; Wanda Forney; Cynthia Courtney; Rebecca Miller Felix; John Courtney (Doris); and Tina Miller. He also leaves behind many grandchildren—too many to name individually—each of whom he deeply cherished.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the many friends who stood by him during his battle with illness. He shared a very special friendship with AmyJo; Jeffrey "Peanut" Patton; Lee and Lester Sexton; Pops; Sharon; and many others whom he loved dearly.

Moe was truly one of a kind and never met a stranger. During his early years, he loved playing softball with his brother and friends. He enjoyed watching sports, especially when one of his children was participating. He would often say that his children were his pride and joy. He loved gatherings with family and friends, where he would play cornhole and proudly claim he was the best. Moe had a strong belief in God and a deep desire to be reunited with his loved ones in heaven.
