He a U.S. Army Veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur R., and Mae Manies Hughes; father-in-law, Pete Lawson and mother-in-law, Tootie Lawson and a sister, Joann Igo.
Survivors include by his wife Judy Lawson Hughes; 3 daughters, Angel Clark, Coeburn, Brenda Hughes, Grundy, Marie Hughes, Wise; 4 sons, William Hughes, Jefferson City, TN, Arthur Hughes, Grundy, James Hughes, Churchill, TN and John Hughes, Manassas, VA; 1 sister, Wilma Eaton, Cold Springs, KY; several grandchildren, 3 Great Grandchildren, several nephews, several nieces.
Visitation for William Fred Hughes will be held Tuesday, September 30, 2003 after 6:00 P.M. at Estes Funeral Home Chapel and funeral services will be at 7:30 P.M. with Rev. Leon Lawson officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn on Wednesday at 11 AM. The family will meet at Estes Funeral Home at 10:30 AM on Wednesday morning prior to going to the cemetery. Pound VFW Post 9600 will furnish military graveside rites.
